Lalique Museum now open !
The Lalique Museum is now open It's called locally the Musée Lalique.
It's quite a largish museum (900 sq meters) and houses Glass and Crystal made by Rene Lalique.
It's situated in the town of Wingen-sur-Moder in the Alsace region of France.
The museum stands on the site of the 18th Century site Where Rene Lalique started his factory. It also houses an exhibition of the history of Glass making and a large display of glass pieces designed by Rene Lalique.
As well as the glass items you'll also see his Jewellery,Perfume Bottmes, Statues and his Art Deco Designs.
There are also temporary changing displays which will be changed a couple of times each year.
This is an unmissable opportunity for any fan of Rene Laliques work or indeed of Art Nouveau or Art deco art objects.
Prior to this musems opening, you could only see Lalique's work at the Musee D'Orsay or a few other important museums (some even in Japan)
There's a guided tour and audiovisual and multi-media exhibitions to give you a fuller experience of the Art Nouveau Period (1890-1905)
You can also visit the rest of the site and nearby is the Cristallerie Lalique where Lalique Cristal is still produced.
The factory was originally called the Verrerie d'Alsace.
Its an interesting museum - not least becausee may of the exhibits are from the private collections of Lalique and have never previously been seen by the public.
