Lalique Sources
Lalique Sources
Antique Dealers now realise the worth of genuine Lalique.
This is particularly the case when you are in a major city.
This does not mean that you cannot find bargains however.
Dealers may well run short of cash and then they put their best loved items on sale.
This often happens in Antiques Arcades.
Portobello Road in London is a prime example where dealers rent window space by the week.
Many large antiques stores have now been converted into Arcades.
As well as showing exceptionally varied numbers of Antiques, this gives each store owner a substantial weekly income.
Many of the dealers using window style displays (rather like showcases) have a small display of their best pieces and a note or card with their main address.
Some dealers work part time and simply go to other stores and buy items they can turn over quickly.
This is the main reason why you should frequent arcades of antiques.
I have seen this system in the USA,Mexico,South Africa and Australia and the UK.
The other advantage that this gives the store owner is that they can display their own pieces while being supported by other dealers.
Try to seek out specialist dealers in antiques arcades - while they may be more expensive, you will often find the quality is better.
It is perfectly posible to get discounts in antiques arcades - just politely make an offer reasonably near the asking price and you may well get a bargain !
Antiques markets are a good source but are also the main source for repro Lalique !
It is still possible to buy Lalique in country markets or car boot sales.
Car boot sales often include glassware of all kinds and may well be the remnants of an estate being sold off cheaply.
This is why it is important to attend a car boot sale as soon as it opens.
Caveat Emptor (buyer beware)
